Black Girls Farm is a unique CSA project that started right here in the nations capital as a way to promote food sovereignty and eradicate food deserts everywhere.
We operate like no other CSA program. Our “farm” is a collection of individual gardens and yards throughout Washington, DC and its adjacent communities.
Black Girls Farm
What started as a hyper-localized CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) has flourished into a thriving community known as Black Girls Farm. Our mission is to promote hands-on education, urban farming, and homesteading practices in Washington DC. Through our efforts, we strive to eradicate food deserts, champion food sovereignty, and address the pressing issues of food insecurity.
By transforming ordinary yards into bountiful edible gardens, we empower individuals to take control of their food sources and create sustainable solutions. Join us in this movement towards a more equitable and nourished community.
Be sure to attend our weekly garden club meetings! We discuss upcoming events, plan new activities, and share our latest accomplishments. Meetings are held every Tuesday at 6pm
• Virtual & In-Person sessions
• Garden Box Raffe (monthly) : Our mission is to put an edible garden in every yard in Washington, DC. We can only accomplish our mission through the help and kind donations of our community allies, partners and members alike.

This approach aims to foster a fair and resilient food system by leveraging research, collaborative efforts, and prioritizing the voices of those most affected by food-related issues.
This strategy focuses on promoting health equity through localized initiatives that encompass all aspects of community well-being. It seeks to forge new partnerships and community-led programs that improve overall health outcomes.
The No Senior Hungry Omnibus Amendment Act of 2021 (NSH) takes a comprehensive approach to addressing senior food insecurity. This bill includes, but is not limited to, the following provisions:
NSH became law on March 24, 2023. However, because this bill was not funded in the Council’s FY 2024 budget, it will expire if it is not funded in the FY 2025 budget.
NEXT STEPS: The next major advocacy point for this bill will be in early 2024, when the Mayor and the DC Council develop their budgets for Fiscal Year 2025.
At Black Girls Farm, our goal is to empower every resident of Washington, D.C. to cultivate their own source of fresh, nutritious food by providing accessible, affordable, and sustainable edible garden boxes for every yard. We believe that by bringing the joy of gardening into the heart of our city, we can create a greener and healthier community.
Our initiative aims to inspire and educate individuals, families, and communities about the transformative power of growing their own food. By promoting the establishment of edible garden boxes in every yard throughout the district, we seek to address food insecurity, improve health outcomes, and foster a deeper connection between people and nature.
Through partnerships with local organizations, schools, and community centers, we will provide resources, workshops, and ongoing support to ensure that residents have the tools and knowledge needed to cultivate thriving gardens. Our campaign will emphasize organic and sustainable practices, encouraging the use of composting, rainwater harvesting, and natural pest control methods.
By growing our own food, we can reduce our reliance on imported produce, decrease our carbon footprint, and contribute to a more sustainable food system. Harvesting Health envisions a future where residents can step outside their homes and harvest fresh, nutrient-rich ingredients, fostering a sense of pride, self-sufficiency, and connection to the natural world.
Join us today in our journey to transform the landscape of the district, one yard at a time. Together, we can sow the seeds of health, resilience, and community, ensuring that every resident has the opportunity to enjoy the bounties of their own edible garden box and lead a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle.
